Erectile Dysfunction Causes

Men experience Erectile Dysfunction, Erectile Disfunction or ED, also referred to as sexual dysfunction or impotence, in a similar manner as women going through Menopause. Erectile Dysfunction is the inability of a man to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for his sexual needs or the sexual needs of his partner or to enjoy a normal sex life and more satisfying sex life. There are numerous causes of Erectile Dysfunction, Erectile Disfunction or ED, also referred to as sexual dysfunction or impotence, and years ago, this was a subject rarely spoke of. Today, there are many prescriptions and alternatives available to alleviate this sexually diminishing medical issue.

Erectile Dysfunction, Erectile Disfunction or ED, also referred to as sexual dysfunction or impotence, can mean a loss of the ability to obtain or maintain an erection, reduction in sexual desire and problems with ejaculation. According to the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, also known as NAMCS, for every 1,000 men in the United States, nearly 22.3 of those men, visited their doctor for problems related to Erectile Dysfunction, Erectile Disfunction or ED, as well as Erectile Dysfunction Causes, also referred to as sexual dysfunction or impotence.

Causes of Erectile Dysfunction, Erectile Disfunction or ED, or Erectile Dysfunction Causes also referred to as sexual dysfunction or impotence, or erectile dysfunction causes can be from heart conditions, disease, injury, nerve damage and side effects of certain medications. There are numerous contributing factors which can be discussed with your physician. Smoking, excessive alcohol use, stress, anxiety or other emotional disorders can attribute to Erectile Dysfunction, Erectile Disfunction or ED, also referred to as sexual dysfunction or impotence. It is normally treatable at any age, depending upon the overall health of the individual. Once a male recognizes that they are suffering from some form of Erectile Dysfunction, Erectile Disfunction or ED, also referred to as sexual dysfunction or impotence, and seek medical attention, they can begin the road to recovery of their sex life and seek appropriate erectile dysfunction treatment.

Erection begins when the penis receives impulses from the brain and local nerves which cause the muscles of the Corpora Cavernosa to relax, allowing blood to flow in to fill the space. The Corpora Cavernosa is a chamber in the penis surrounded by a membrane referred to as the tunica albuginea. When the blood flows in, it creates pressure thus allowing the penis to expand or become erect. The tunica albuginea helps to trap the blood, maintaining the term of the erection. The erection is reversed when the muscles in the penis contract the inflow of blood and open the outflow of the channel.

Men should not feel embarrassed or ashamed to discuss Erectile Dysfunction, Erectile Disfunction or ED as well as Erectile Dysfunction Causes, also referred to as sexual dysfunction or impotence, with their physician. Men, you are not alone and have no reason to live your life not enjoying the sex life you desire and seek appropriate erectile dysfunction treatment. Feel free to discuss medications currently on the market such as Viagra, Levitra and Cialis. These medications are developed to be taken approximately an hour prior to engaging in sex. Your doctor will proscribe the dosage, depending upon your health and any ongoing medical conditions you may have. Follow the recommended dosage and instructions provided by your physician as certain medication can cause problems such as a sudden drop in blood pressure which could be life threatening. In addition to oral medications; various medical procedures are available such as penile implants. There are some drugs which can be injected directly into the penis such as phentolamine, papaverine hydrochloride and Caverject which widen blood vessels. Use extreme caution with these drugs as they have the potential to cause side effects and some side effects may be serious.

There are numerous vacuum devises and penis pumps on the market as well, devices which are placed over the penis in order to create an erection. Penile implants are another option available to men which consists of rods surgically inserted into the corpora Cavernosa. Manual adjustment is performed by the patient although; length or girth will not be affected by this procedure.

Inflatable implants also can be inserted into the penis. This too is manually adjusted by pressing on a small pump located under the skin of the scrotum. These implants tend to allow the penis to be more natural, when not inflated.

Another method to improve an erection is known as Muse which is performed by inserting a pellet of  alprostadil into the urethra. Normally, an erection can occur within 10 minutes and may last up to 60 minutes. Again, there are numerous side effects that should be discussed with your physician. These side effects may consist of a warm or burning sensation of the urethra, redness or pain in the penis, testicles or area between the penis and rectum or, urethral bleeding which may be minor.
